ENGAGEMENT

With the creation of VEDEA in 2018, Véronique Descharrières cultivates her own vision and lays the foundations for an architectural, urban and landscape practice based on research, experimentation and collective intelligence.

Convinced that the design of projects must decisively encourage the renewal of the planet's life cycles, the VEDEA agency relies on the merits of a constructive and collective collaboration, offering projects an unprecedented methodological approach.

The agency is designed as a laboratory of ideas, combining several disciplines, most of which are emerging, to provide concrete answers to the way in which living beings interact with each other and their environments.

On every level, the agency offers a global reflection based on the alliance of architectural, landscape, climatic, economic and technological data, allowing for the establishment of new conditions of symbiosis between man and his environment. VEDEA formulates urban projects and strategies capable of contributing to the creation of a desirable future for living, resilient and sustainable architecture.

PRACTICE

As a player in both public and private demand, the agency focuses on construction, rehabilitation and conversion operations. It responds to cultural and tertiary programs, often multifunctional, intended for operations in France and abroad.

For all the projects entrusted to her, Véronique Descharrières, strives to capture the geography and the powerful character of the site by ensuring that the occupation or the developments generate positive and beneficial effects both for man and for his environment. The ambitious project for the Paris Zoological Park, the exemplary approach carried out at the Caribbean Institute for Island Biodiversity in Saint Martin as well as the large-scale project proposition of the "Yanshan International Ecological World" in Beijing, all testify to the sensitivity of Véronique Descharrières for unusual ecological projects giving rise to experimental uses and the implementation of innovative and sustainable technologies.

APPROACH

VEDEAEXPLORE is a think tank created at the initiative of the Vedea agency, an open forum to environmental disciplines and to information likely to influence the architectural practices of tomorrow.

The future of the planet is changing faster than ever under the increasing impact of human activity. At the same time, research carried out by the life sciences records considerable progress and provides us with a scientific and measurable reading of the degradation of natural or urbanized environments. In this context, architecture takes its part and imposes itself as a new field of investigation allowing to anticipate alternative lifestyles intended to imagine the world of tomorrow.

A JOURNEY OF COMMENT

In a world undergoing profound change, where the quality of natural and urban environments is threatened, the act of building has become a focal point.

Véronique Descharrières is an architect and urban planner. Originally from Luxembourg and practicing her profession in France, she shares her activities between the BTuA Paris / New-York office as a partner and the VEDEA office that she founded in 2018 to develop special projects.

Within the framework of VEDEA, Véronique Descharrières defends the idea of research based on collective intelligence and considers the need to explore architecture as a subject at the intersection of several disciplines.

Capable of designing projects and devices that are sometimes iconoclastic and always innovative, her research focuses on situations or scenography capable of revealing the character of sites and promoting a better symbiosis between man and his environment.

With strong research and experiments carried out in situ within the framework of workshops or collective events, Véronique Descharrières intends to participate in new strategies that make it possible to question the potential of the architectural project and its capacities to work on changing behavior.

As a guest professor at several schools and institutions, she was awarded Chevalier des Arts et Lettres in 2012 and the ARVHA Prize of Women Architects for original work in 2015. In 2019, she became a full member of the Academy of Architecture in Paris.

Team

TEAM PARIS

EXPERTS

The projects developed by the agency revolve around rare and sometimes unique expertise.

Working in favor of biodiversity implies that the projects are aimed at all living species, both human and animal.

The Vedea agency’s project teams are composed of researchers, scientists as well as numerous technical and environmental experts. Together, they form a network of strategic partners.
